I guess they realised it was too difficult for her to study safe on her turn, since they would be forced to go XX pretty much.
I don't know, I think it's still better to go for the higher chance of getting the corner here? Eunji will have to move a new piece if she doesn't want to finish with her piece before she can use it to get mine. So she won't be getting too far ahead? It is a bit tricky with my other piece, but I'll move that as soon as it's at risk.

I'm actually really shocked she didn't go OO there, I thought she'd know I wouldn't let her go backwards. They must still have been thinking I'll do XO every time? But now they realise I'll be changing it up.

If Eunji leaves her existing piece in place and decides to move a new one it will be a game over kind of mistake on their part because on your turn you can repeatedly throw OO untill they crak and allow you either to move to the center or to capture Eunji. If you get to capture her, you then throw OO each turn for you and XO each turn for them until you finish the game and they can't catch you. If you end up in the middle you throw OO each turn for you, XO for Kyungran and OO for Eunji (to make sure she can't move back). Our only concern in that second case would be that after 4 or 5 OOOO, Eunji would be just two spaces behind your old piece so we should trick them by going for XX after 3 OOOO if it comes to that.
But my point is that Eunji's only chance to make her piece count in this game would be to try and hunt for your old piece which means it will be impossible for me to catch her unless I make risky moves such as this one. If she doesn't realise it and truly moves her new piece, it's even better for us.

If Eunji leaves her piece there though and I go on the middle corner because they make me go two, on Eunji's turn I'm a bit stuck because I need to do OO to stop her going backwards, while OOOO x 3 will get her new piece to me if she goes up two on her with the new one. Or if three with her new piece she could get OOOO plus OOXX to get me. Buuuut I guess that is a risky move because if she fails to get me, I've just won by getting put on the shortcut. They DO need to take risks to win though.

It feels like way too many things would have to go bad in order for that to happen but in order to scare them into moving Eunji's existing piece I will take the conservative approach here.

Sorry if I'm wrong I'll never doubt your decisions again if I am

Well, as I said first, there was a very very slim chance of them letting me get XXXX. I just hope they won't read into this decision and throw a OO instead, but that would be waaay to risky for them.

One of each for Eunji so she won't move too much?
And for your turn, do you think it's worth it to do anything but double blanks?

Yeah one of each for Eunji, and I don't think it's likely I would risk anything but double blanks for my turn, but I'll have to see what Eunji does first.

If Eunji leaves her existing piece there, then double blanks is THE move since even a XOOO would be cool as it allows you to capture her and most likely win the game.
If however she decides to move her piece, then you might also consider one of each as double blanks would be the obvious move for you and they might "counter" it with one of each. Though it's not such a great shame of you get to move three spaces and you can aim for a backwards move next with a double X. I think in the end it would be worth it to go for double blanks regardless.

Yeah I think that's right, double blanks is the choice either way. Although I'm not entirely sold on OOXX if she leaves her piece there, but I am probably being overly paranoid on that one

Okay, so if Eunji moves a new piece 2 or 3, I'll do OO and then decide which piece to move. I'm considering getting my old piece off the board as I don't want to be protecting two pieces. If she moves her current piece 3, I'm definitely moving my older piece off the board, as in that position it's too difficult to keep both pieces safe if I move my new one along. If she moves her current piece 2, then I'll do OO and move the newer piece 2 or 3. Her moving 2 is my ideal scenario. But I don't want to risk XX on her turn because I can't have her getting a new piece on that corner which is only 2 away from me. So she's most likely moving backwards or moving 3?
If she moves backwards onto the middle I'm actually quite screwed if I don't get 2 to get her out, because of the rules of the corners. If I move my new piece 3 she could move 'backwards' onto me, or if I go OO to stop her doing that, she could go 4-3 and get either piece. In which case, what is my best move if she goes backwards? It might actually be XX? Either I move 2, awesome, get XXXX, awesome, or go one backwards...which might be my best defensive position?
